DCU Geospatial

The DCU Geospatial group works with GIS and earth observation (EO) data to monitor and map the environment. Our main focus is to use EO data to acquire information about the environment and to use GIS to derive insights from that data.

Our work is funded by the Environmental Protection Agency of Ireland (EPA), Science Foundation Ireland under SFI Enable and the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM).

We work closely with the DCU Water Institute, the SFI funded Insight Center as well as collaborating widely in  Ireland, Europe, USA, Canada. We publish our work in international peer reviewed journals.

Dr. John Connolly is a geographer interested in using GIS and Earth Observation to examine the environment.

He is the lead PI on the EPA funded iHabiMap project (2019 -2023); WP1 Leader  on the EPA funded SmartBog project (2019 - 2023) and Co-PI on the DAFM-funded GENENET project. He is also the PI on the SFI-funded Solar Map project, along with Prof. Noel O Connor and Dr. Ankit Verma.

He  teaches  geography and GIS in the DCU School of History and Geography.

John collaborates widely and some of these collaborations can be seen here.
